Allan McDonnel QC

Allan McDonell QC

Allan McDonell QC is one of the most accomplished trial lawyers in British Columbia.

Allan practiced complex commercial litigation at Russell & DuMoulin (now Fasken Martineau) for more than 16 years, specializing in takeovers, heavy construction, shareholder disputes, defamation and professional negligence. Before leaving the firm in 1994 Allan was responsible for the management of a litigation group of 80 lawyers and support staff.

From 1994 to 2001 Allan took on full-time conservation roles as Executive Director of BC Wild in Vancouver, and later the Wildlands Project in Tuscon, Arizona.

Allan returned to Vancouver in 2001 and started his own law firm where he practices as commercial litigation counsel in association with other lawyers and law firms, and continues to provide consulting services to international foundations and conservation organizations around the world.

   
Efrem Swartz Efrem Swartz

Efrem has a broad background in large scale litigation and professional regulation matters.

Efrem was called to the BC bar in 2000 and practiced at Hordo & Bennett from 2000 to 2007. He was co-counsel in the settlement of the largest expropriation of property related to construction of the Canada Line in Vancouver, helped defend the first class action lawsuit in British Columbia to go to trial on its merits, set aside an $800,000 pre-judgment garnishing order, and has assisted in the defence of several multi-million dollar insurance claims.

In the field of professional regulation, Efrem has acted for the Law Society of British Columbia, the BC College of Teachers, the Real Estate Council of BC, and the BC Veterinary Medical Association.

   
Andrei Mincov Andrei Mincov

Andrei Mincov is a veteran intellectual property lawyer with over 13 years of legal experience both as a solicitor and a litigator. Before coming to Canada in 2007, Andrei was a lawyer in Moscow offices of Baker & McKenzie, where he became the single point of reference for all copyright and domain name matters. He has extensive practical experience in the copyright law - especially in the fields of software, music and the audiovisual industry. Andrei has authored books on domain name disputes and international treaties on intellectual property.

Mark Hicken Mark Hicken

Mark Hicken is a Vancouver lawyer providing a full range of legal services to the wine and liquor industry, advising on issues such as compliance, operations risk / liability, LCLB licensing, LDB regulation, enforcement defence, license transfers, purchase / sale, and import / export clearance.

He is a member of the International Association of Wine Lawyers (Association Internationale des Juristes du Vin) and the American Society for Enology & Viticulture. He has also completed Wine Executive Program at the University of California, Davis. Mark writes the well-respected blog, www.winelaw.ca. He has been interviewed on wine law issues in the National Post, the Globe and Mail, the Vancouver Sun, the Vancouver Province, the Advocate, Canadian Lawyer Magazine, CKNW radio, CBC radio and in the trade publication Wines & Vines.

Mark Hicken has also practiced law at Fasken Martineau, Lawson Lundell, and Legacy Tax and Trust in Vancouver, and has expertise in a wide range of other fields including trusts and pension and benefits law.

Jie Wang Jie Wang

Jie Wang was born and raised in Beijing, China. She obtained her first law degree from China University of Political Science and Law and was admitted to practice in China in 1995. Jie was in-house counsel for Nestlé (China) Ltd. from 1997-1999 and practiced law in a leading law firm in Beijing specializing in international investment from 2001-2005. She has an LL.M. from the University of Arizona and a J.D. degree from the University of Victoria. She is currently finishing her articles in Vancouver and is expected be called to the BC Bar in 2012.

王捷出生于北京。她有中国政法大学法学学士学位,美国亚利桑那大学法学院法学硕士学位和加拿大维多利亚大学法学博士学位。在移民加拿大之前,王捷于1997年到1999年在雀巢(中国)有限公司担任法律顾问,于2001年到2005年在北京知名律师事务所执业,擅长外商投资业务。王捷在1995年获得中国律师资格。她现在本所实习并将于2012年获BC省执业资格。

   
John Zeljkovich John Zeljkovich

John Zeljkovich is an associate at Robert Fleming Lawyers. He articled at a large national firm, and was called to the BC bar in 2010. John is a very talented young lawyer who already has experience with complex commercial matters, creditor’s remedies, professional negligence claims, fraud litigation, Society Act disputes, employment and shareholder’s remedies.

John recently garnished $300,000 from a bank in Quebec prior to obtaining judgment, and has been involved in matters involving both Anton Pillar and Mareva injunctions. Recently, he was co-counsel for the petitioners challenging the constitutional validity of British Columbia’s new impaired driving legislation: Sivia v. British Columbia (Superintendent of Motor Vehicles), 2011 BCSC 1639.

John is fluent in Croatian.

   
Robbie Fleming Robbie Fleming

Robbie Fleming began his career as a prosecutor in northern BC and opened his own practice in Vancouver in 1994. After 10 years Robbie's practice covered the waterfront of litigation issues: commercial contracts, criminal defence, employment, administrative law and professional discipline, wrongful death, product liability, business torts, aboriginal law, and intellectual property disputes.

In 2004 Robbie left the practice of law moved to the UK to do an MBA at Cambridge. From 2005 to 2008 Robbie was in Europe and engaged in a wide range of entrepreneurial and consulting projects in mostly non-legal roles, including oil & gas, biotech, venture capital, internet, and outsourcing legal services to India.

With his business experience in hand, Robbie returned to the practice of law in 2008 with a focus on helping business clients find clear, economically-based strategies through complicated litigation matters and their related business problems.
